The global market for Mobile Web 2.0 applications will soar to
US$22.4-billion by 2013, according to Juniper Research. That's up from a
present value of about US$5-billion.
Web 2.0 refers to the ability of Internet users to generate web-based
content. Examples would be blogs and social networking sites, such as
Facebook. The enormous growth forecast by Juniper flows from the increasing
ability of users to generate such web content using cell phones and mobile
devices.
"The phone is carried with us most of the time and contains a huge
amount of personal data, making it a logical extension for the social
network and a host of other collaborative Web 2.0 applications being
mobilised," says Ian Chard, a research analyst with Juniper.
